Ville-Veikko Mattila was born in Tampere, Finland in 1969. He obtained his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1995 and Dr. Tech. in Information Technology in 2001 from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) with studies at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany. In 2006 he was nominated as Docent for TUT, Institute of Signal Processing. He has been working in Nokia Research Center, Multimedia Technologies laboratory in Finland since 1994 and is currently Research Manager.

He is the inventor of several patents for speech processing in mobile devices and communication networks, and has published over 30 journal/conference papers. He is Finnish representative of International Federation of Information Processing, TC14 on Entertainmet Computing. Outside work, he teaches audio signal processing at TUT, enjoys the pleasures of cross-country skiing and exercising at gym.
